Denver —June 23, 2017— Results of the 2017 Western Conservative Summit governor’s race straw poll are in and the winner is George Brauchler, 18th Judicial District attorney and prosecutor of the Aurora theater shooter, with 39 percent of the votes. 3. Steve Barlock with 7%
  4. Walker Stapleton with 6%

This year the Western Conservative Summit also introduced a second voting method known as approval voting which reflects the broadest popular support for candidates. Approval voting is an alternative voting method where the voter can vote for more than one candidate. It’s as simple as a show of hands.

When attendees cast their vote this weekend, they were given two separate ballots. With traditional voting, they wrote down their single preferred candidate. With approval voting, they were given the opportunity to show support for multiple candidates. There were 29 different candidates, democrats, republicans, independents, and other potential governor’s race candidates. On average, voters picked 2 candidates.

On the approval voting ballot, George Brauchler won in a landslide with 58 percent of the vote. Victor Mitchell came in second with 28 percent. And Walker Stapleton was third with 22 percent of the vote.

Below are the top five under approval voting:

  1. George Brauchler with 58%
  2. Victor Mitchell with 28%

Results were announced at Sunday’s closing session of the Western Conservative Summit held at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. Attendees included conservatives, members of the faith community, Republican volunteers, community and business leaders, and students.
